Who we are

StoryNews operates the website at www.storynews.org, which provides, as a nonprofit service, a space where progressive activists can find allies, tools, resources, and inspiration to actively participate in our democratic societies and work towards a kinder, fairer, and more just world. To learn more about our mission, vision, history, and team, please refer to our About page.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

This page is used to inform you, dear website visitor, of our policies on the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information. Basically, we collect and use only information that we need to provide and improve our service, and none of that information will ever be shared with anyone except for trusted third-party companies such as PayPal for the following reasons:

While these third-party companies have access to pertinent user information, they are obligated not to disclose or use that information for any other purposes besides those bullet-pointed above.

Please note that if you choose to use our service, then you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this privacy policy. Also, you agree to the Terms and Conditions that are designed to make our platform and community one that is conscientious as well as fun, safe, and useful for progressive activists.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site and/or have left any content on it, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Comments

Leave a comment and we’ll get that comment, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us detect—and prevent—spam and trolling. Depending on the profile pic you’re using, we might provide an anonymized string created from your email address to our Gravatar service. You can check out that Gravatar service’s own privacy policy if you like. Once we approve your comment, your Gravatar or profile pic will be displayed with your comment. Standard stuff.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Whatever information you send to us via contact forms will be entered into one of our databases so that it can be used to analyze what members of our community need and want, and to solicit grants and donations that will help us deliver those needs and wants.
